Salt Lake Tribune Review
Knowing there's a twist (and the movie's ads tell you that much) could spoil your enjoyment of this overcooked thriller -- because if you're looking for it, you'll easily see it coming. Better to just sit back and take the ride as cooing honeymooners Cydney (
Milla Jovovich) and Cliff (
Steve Zahn) go backpacking through Kauai, where they hear about a murder on Oahu and start suspecting the couples they run into -- a tough-talking Iraq vet (
Timothy Olyphant) and his backwoods girlfriend (
Kiele Sanchez), or a pair of tattooed lowlifes (
Marley Shelton and "Star Trek's" Chris Hemsworth) -- of being the killers. Writer-director
David Twohy (who made "Pitch Black" and its sequel, "The Chronicles of Riddick") is too much in love with his hipper-than-thou dialogue, but he plants some sneaky scares along the trail.

I went in not expecting too much, but was pleasantly surprised. I like Steve Zahn, Milla Jovovich and especially Tim Olyphant, who was so great in Deadwood. The trailers didn't look awful, so decided to give it a shot.
The Kauaii scenery is breathtaking and while it takes a bit to get going, the last 20 minutes are worth the wait. Don't spend too much time analyzing it, just go and have fun!

Synopsis: Cliff and Cydney are an adventurous young couple celebrating their honeymoon by backpacking to one of the most beautiful, and remote, beaches in Hawaii. Hiking the wild, secluded trails, they believe they've found paradise. But when the pair comes across a group of frightened hikers discussing the horrifying murder of another newlywed couple on the islands, they begin to question whether they should turn back. Unsure whether to stay or flee, Cliff and Cydney join up with two other couples, and things begin to go terrifyingly wrong. Far from civilization or rescue, everyone begins to look like a threat and nobody knows whom to trust. Paradise becomes hell on earth as a brutal battle for survival begins.
